Buying a House for First-timers

0

All right, this video is really helpful if you’re thinking about buying a house but are really scared to do it. I’m a homeowner. But I’ll be honest with you. I didn’t really even know what a mortgage was, exactly, before I bought my house. I’m lucky because there were a bunch of people from my family, my bank, and from political entities, to help me buy my first house, even when I wasn’t sure how to do it. They will be there for you, too. You’ve just got to figure out a few things first.

One, what can you afford. This is the biggest thing that will hamstring you later if you get it wrong. You want to buy only that which you can afford, probably well less than that. Our video calls this “not being an idiot”. If you spend too much, you’re going to own a house, but you’re going to be treading water. In the best situation, you’ll be paying a lot less for your mortgage than you would to rent the same property. That’s why it sucks that you have to pay rent right now. You’re paying some other guy’s mortgage.

But it’s expensive to buy a house. Closing costs, down payment, property taxes, renovations, it all adds up. But once you get over that hump, you can sit back and relax in a home that is really yours. It’s an amazing feeling, one that will stick with you. The financial side of things will enable you to do a lot of things in life that you otherwise would not be able to. So trust me, homebuying is awesome. You’ve just got to make it happen. So whether you’re doing this alone or with a partner (group? Whatever, I don’t know you.) just make sure everybody’s on the same page, and that you are doing something you can afford. It’s a great thing to buy a house, and I think you’ll be glad you did.
