Delcath Systems (DCTH) Stock: More Proof That Something Big Is Happening

0

I normally don’t do this. Considering that I’ve already written about Delcath Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DCTH) today, I normally would wait at least a day before writing about the stock again. However, there’s something pressing at the moment, and I don’t think investors should wait to know about it.

DCTH Patent Approved

The big news that was just released is that Delcath Systems has received approval for a new United States Patent.  Just minutes ago, the USPTO announced that it has approved yet another patent for DCTH. The patent covers an apparatus for removing chemotherapy compounds from blood. The abstract for the patent reads as follows:

A filter for removing small molecule chemotherapy agents from blood is provided. The filter apparatus comprises a housing with an extraction media comprised of polymer coated carbon cores. Also provided are methods of treating a subject with cancer of an organ or region comprising administering a chemotherapeutic agent to the organ or region, collecting blood laded with chemotherapeutic agent from the isolated organ, filtering the blood laden with chemotherapeutic agent to reduce the chemotherapeutic agent in the blood and returning the blood to the subject.”

Why This Is Proof That Something Big Is Happening

As if a patent isn’t big enough news, I believe that this is proof that something bigger is coming. The reason is relatively simple. To find the patent, you have to search the USPTO website. That’s right, the company hasn’t offered a press release informing investors of the patent approval. Considering that the patent was approved instead of denied, there’s no reason that DCTH would be stalling for time in order to find an easy way to bring this information to investors.

As a result, it is my opinion that the company is in the midst of a quiet period at the moment, which makes things very interesting here. Quiet periods are usually used in specific times. Ahead of earnings is the most common time companies are quiet with their investors, and we know we’re not quite there yet.

However, another reason companies – including Delcath Systems – may be quiet is that they are in talks surrounding a potential buyout. Of course, there are other reasons that quiet periods take place, but given everything that I’ve learned about the company over the past year or so, a buyout is definitely a possibility here.
