Ways To Have Fun Without Breaking The Bank

Having Fun Without Breaking The BankUsually I talk about ways to save money, make money, invest money, or do other things with money. Today, I’m going to switch things up a bit. Today, I’d like to chat a bit about how to spend money. That’s right, I said how to spend money! The bottom line is that saving money doesn’t mean that you have to give up spending on the things you love. Living a financially free lifestyle doesn’t mean that you’ll never get to go out and have a meal with your husband or wife at a nice restaurant again. Instead, living a financially stable and frugal lifestyle is all about controlling your spending; not stopping it entirely.

Why It’s Important Not To Stop Spending On Fun

As consumers, we work for a big portion of the time we have on this planet. 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, sometimes more, we find ourselves doing something to earn money in order to survive now and in the future. However, if all we focus on is survival, we’ve got a pretty bland life. The bottom line is that people that are happier tend to be more productive in life. So, if you’re not spending on having fun, chances are that you’re not as productive as you could be either!

3 Ways To Have Fun Without Breaking The Bank!

1: Groupon – Let me start by saying that I absolutely, with out a doubt, unconditionally love Groupon coupons! My fiance and I like to go out and eat, hit the bar in downtown Portland, and more. However, a night out can get pretty expensive…that is, if you don’t have coupons. Our average savings through Groupon is around 50%. So, when we find good deals on restaurants and bars, we tend to snatch them up pretty quickly!

2: Think “Mostly-Free” – You don’t have to go spend a ton of money at a bar, bowling alley, or movie theater to have fun. As a matter of fact, one of the things that Ana and I do most to have fun is go hiking. We have a Mt. Hood Forest Parking Pass which costs us around $30 a season. However, we find ourselves hiking at least once a week and not paying $5 each time to do it. So, overall, the season pass saves us a killing. We estimate that between food, parking, and gas, our hiking adventures cost us about seven bucks a piece!

#3: Plan Ahead – If you go out somewhere you know you’re going to spend money. Take a moment to think about what you plan to do and how much money it’s going to cost you. By setting a plan before actually going out and spending money, you’ll avoid the miscellaneous purchases that tend to add up quite a bit.
